So, this morning was supposed to be Zumba day.  However, I forgot that I had to go and pick up a prescription and do a little grocery shopping before work this morning.  So, that cut into the time I would have been doing the Zumba, so I just decided that today would be a rest day.  Considering I don’t actually like to take rest days, when I take them, I’m sure my body is grateful.  Especially after yesterday’s longer than ever for me run of 6.2 miles.

I’ve decided to not push myself too far and will only be doing 5.5 miles on tomorrow’s run.  I started off thinking that maybe I’d run the 6.2 again, but I don’t want to overdo it.  I was reminded by a fellow runner to make sure I don’t forget to throw in “easy” run days.  So, my run schedule for the next few weeks will look like this:

3/10 – 6.2 miles
3/12 – 5 or 5.5 miles
3/15 – 5.5 or 6.2 miles
3/17 – 6.2 miles
3/19 – 5 or 5.5 miles
3/22 – 5.5 or 6.2 miles
3/24 – 6.2 miles
3/26 – 5.5 miles
3/28 – 4 miles
3/30 – 5K event
4/1 – 6.2 miles
4/3 – 5 miles
4/5 – 4 miles
4/7 – 10K event

And then, after all that, I’ll decide what my run schedule will look like each week.  I do know that I want Sundays to be my long run (6 miles and up) day for the week.  On Tuesdays, I’ll do a median length run (5-5.5 miles) and then a shorter run on Fridays (like 3 or 4 miles).  I think like every 4 to 6 weeks, I’ll add a mile to my Sunday runs until I’m up to 13.1.  And even then, I’ve been told by others that I should be able to run about 3 miles more than the event distance I want to run in.  So, if I’m hoping to run a ½ marathon (which I am, February 2014) I should really be shooting for my long runs on Sundays to be upward of 16 miles!  Goodness!  I have faith in myself, though.  Besides, I have like 11 months to train and get ready for it.  That’s plenty of time.

Something I’d really like to do is a duathlon or biathlon…where it’s 2 events: running and bicycling.  I don’t want to do the swimming event.  I don’t want to deal with a wetsuit, getting in and then out of it again at the transition point.  But I’m confident that I can do running and cycling together.  I’ve done a little searching but haven’t yet found an event like this in my area.  I suppose I should go to the cycling shops and running stores and ask there if they know of any.  If anybody knows about them, it’ll be them.
